Sangeeta Gupta talent ranges from that of artist, bureaucrat, poet, writer, documentary film maker to environmental promoter of sustainable living through artworks. Her latest ‘canvas’ is a signature work on a 200meter hand spun fabric painted in indigo. A self taught artist, she has 35 solo shows across prestigious platforms such as Jehangir Gallery Mumbai, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and her first solo show at the Birla Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of Bharat Bhavan and museums in Belgium and Thessalonica.
She has held over 200 group shows, besides being a documentary film maker and poet. Sangeeta’s art depicts a monochrome palette, in blues, suggesting the viscosity of ink. Their compositions evoke mountain mists, the glow of sunlight, the presence of boulders embedded in water, as also a likeness to skin, bark and the texture of earth. Her artistic output takes viewers into timeless realms where reflections on life’s concerns and ruminations evoke a language born of the inner soul. A recipient of several awards and felicitations, including the AIFACS Award on two occasions, the artist lives and works in Delhi.
