Artist Profile
Bandana Kumari, graduated in Fine Art from the College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, in 1987.
She has held solo shows ever since 2015, at important art spaces, countrywide. The artist has
been featured in several group exhibitions and arts and literature festivals, such as the Tagore
International Arts and Literature Festival and Jaipur Literature and Art festival, Jaipur. She
has participated in group shows of the Bombay Art Society, Mumbai, (2019), Jehangir Art
Gallery, Mumbai, Bharat Bhavan Bhopal, Art Konsult Gallery, New Delhi, and also attended art
camps at Dubai and Thimphu, Bhutan. The Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata Award, National
Lalit Kala Akademi UP Lucknow Award -2016, Bihar State Award Patna-2015, Lalit Kala
Akademi selection 6 years New Delhi. The Dhoomimal Scholarship painting competition New
Delhi-2012, the Camlin India Limited, the Jamini Roy Gallery Kolkata-2010 award, among
others.

In her works, the artist has made the five elements of nature, namely fire, water, air, earth and
ether, the leitmotif of her art. Her interpretative skills transform the woman from an icon of
glamour into a symbol of inner strength, using the visage of a lion, nature’s most powerful
beast. With their monotone palette and realistic style of depictions, the works appeal at both
the visual and emotional levels.
