About the Artist

Born in 1974, artist Basant Bhargava holds a Masters in Drawing and Painting from the Barkatullah University, Bhopal. His art portfolio includes a wide spectrum of themes, with prominent works on India’s geographical diversity. Veering away from site-specific works, Bhargava’s signature style embodies the artistic technique of palette knife applications and thick brushstrokes, whereby he has managed to create stunning abstract formulations of colour density. For this artist, tinctures and shades serve the dual purpose of presenting the vocabulary of spring in his art, as also depicting feelings that are born of an active imagination.

Thus each of his works elaborate a life of their own. Bhargava has been the recipient of several prestigious awards ever since he started showcasing his art, in 2004, when he had held his first solo exhibition at the Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet and Kala Academy, in Bhopal. Having clocked more than 70 group shows till date, Bhargava’s works have found recognition on platforms such as AIFACS Gallery, New Delhi, Artist Centre Mumbai, the Raza Prize Exhibition, three consecutive shows at the MP Kala Parishad platform, and more recently at the Alliance Francoise Bhopal show, titled ‘Lines of a City’. The artist has to his credit five solo exhibitions, including one-man shows at Jehangir Art Gallery (2014) and Art and Soul Gallery (2011). The artist lives and works in Bhopal.
